The most common issues we see in Algarve properties are predictable: running toilets wasting water and pushing up bills, dripping taps with worn ceramic cartridges, shower heads with limescale reducing pressure, and isolation valves that have seized after years without use. We identify the root cause before touching anything — a drip that looks minor can hide a cracked fitting inside the wall. Materials are matched to the existing installation: copper pipe jointed with compression fittings, or flexible push-fit connections where access is tight. We test under running water before we leave and clean up after ourselves.

Older Portuguese properties from the 1980s and 90s often have aluminium wiring and single-phase boards with limited circuit protection. We work within the existing installation: replacing failed Schuko sockets (the Type F standard used across Algarve), adding grounding where it's absent from a circuit, swapping out halogen fittings for LED downlights, and diagnosing why a breaker keeps tripping. Overloaded kitchen and bathroom circuits are the usual cause, or a neutral wire that has worked loose inside a junction box. We don't perform main panel upgrades or full rewires — those require a certified técnico responsável — but for everyday electrical jobs we do them correctly and leave every fitting properly covered.
TV Mounting & Curtain Rails
We mount TVs of all sizes with secure wall fixing and tidy cable management, and install curtain rails and blinds with precise, clean finishing.
Algarve villas are mostly concrete and brick, which is good for wall mounting — fixings sit securely in masonry anchors rather than hollow-wall toggles that can pull out under the weight of a large screen. We locate any conduit or rebar before drilling, use a hammer drill to the correct depth, and torque all fixings properly. For cables we route them through surface trunking mounted flush to the wall, or if you want a cleaner finish we can chase the plaster and fill it over — leaving no visible cabling at all. Articulated arms, tilt brackets, and fixed mounts all installed; we position the screen at a comfortable viewing height before finishing.
Appliance Installation
Washing machines, dishwashers and other appliances connected properly — water inlet, drainage, positioning and a full functionality check once installed.
Portuguese mains supply is 230V/50Hz with Schuko (Type F) sockets rated at 16A. Most modern appliances are compatible, but we check the circuit can handle the load before connecting — a washing machine and dishwasher sharing the same circuit can cause nuisance tripping. Water hoses are connected to isolation valves using quality braided connections, and drainage is routed without kinks that cause blockages over time. We level the machine and run a short test cycle before leaving so you know it works, the door seals properly, and there are no leaks underneath.
Furniture Assembly & Repair
IKEA, Leroy Merlin, wardrobes, beds, shelving and outdoor furniture — assembled correctly and anchored securely. We also repair loose hinges, drawers and damaged fittings on existing furniture.
Large flat-pack builds — tall wardrobes, bunk beds, full kitchen unit runs — typically take two to four hours and need two people for safe panel handling. We follow manufacturer instructions precisely: skipped steps and over-tightened fittings are the main reason furniture wobbles or fails within a year. In earthquake-prone regions (Algarve sits in a seismically active zone), tall furniture should be wall-anchored — we fit anti-tip brackets as standard on wardrobes and tall shelving. If a delivery arrives with missing parts, we photograph the missing components and can usually source them from Leroy Merlin or IKEA in Faro the same day.
